El catalanisme d’esquerres –hereu de Macià, Companys i Tarradellas– ha tornat al Govern 65 anys després de la derrota de Catalunya i de l’Espanya republicana. Enllaçar amb la història estroncada suposa una satisfacció íntima i una vibració continguda. Per fidelitat a aquest llegat reividinquem el president Lluís Companys i el seu exemple. Però la commemoració d’avui no pot ser exclusiva de les esquerres, ha de ser i vol ser la celebració de tot el poble de Catalunya. És per això que el Govern de la Generalitat dóna a aquesta commemoració tota la solemnitat que li escau i una normalitat pròpia d’un país reconciliat amb la seva història. Res no justifica, avui, ni l’oblit, ni el silenci. Res no justificaria, d’altra banda, la mitificació acrítica del president màrtir. Amb el record del president Companys, rememorem les esperances d’autogovern, de justícia, de democràcia i de llibertat d’aquella Catalunya republicana dels anys 30. També recordem l’assalt franquista a aquelles esperances i la tragèdia de la guerra incivil. Una tragèdia col.lectiva composta de centenars de milers de tragèdies personals. El Fossar de la Pedrera de Montjuïc vol ser un testimoni digne d’aquestes tragèdies, entre les quals sobresurt la del president 33 Ofrena floral a la tomba de Companys, l’any passat. Companys pel seu simbolisme. Però de ben poc ens serviria rememorar aquells fets si no n’aprenguéssim les lliçons permanents que ens donen. Antoni Rovira i Virgili ho formulava de forma punyent en el seu jurament de l’exiliat: «De la màxima dissort, sortirà el definitiu redreçament de la història, si els catalans sabem aprofitar les duríssimes lliçons que hem rebut». Estic convençut que els catalans no oblidarem les lliçons de la història. De fet, les vam tenir ben presents fa vint-i-cinc anys en la recuperació de la democràcia i de l’autogovern. La Catalunya d’avui ja no és aquella Catalunya convulsa i mancada d’una civilitat compartida. Estem molt lluny d’aquella Catalunya vençuda. Tenim una Catalunya renascuda que ha superat l’esperit de guerra civil, que ha tornat a confiar en ella mateixa, que ha recupe- rat el seu autogovern, que s’ha vist reconeguda per l’Espanya democràtica, que ha pogut exercitar la seva vocació europea i que està en condicions d’anar més lluny si sabem combinar ambició de futur i memòria històrica. El sacrifici del president Lluís Companys constitueix una fita essencial d’aquesta memòria per dues La seva generosa actitud davant la mort va indicar el camí de la reconciliació raons paradoxalment contraposades. En primer lloc perquè significa el moment més negre de la nostra història contemporània. El moment en què la pretesa legalitat de l’Espanya rebel va assassinar el president legítim de la Generalitat de Catalunya únicament i exclusivament pel fet de ser-ho. Aquesta agressió màxima ha justificat actituds d’agror, de retret i de desconfiança de Catalunya envers Espanya. Si ens haguéssim quedat en el plany i en el rancor de la Catalunya vençuda no seríem on som ara, ni podríem aspirar a anar més lluny. Per això, cal tenir ben present l’altra cara del sacrifici de Companys, la que constitueix la llavor del renaixement de Catalunya i que no és cap altra que la generositat amb què va afrontar el seu destí fatal. Una generositat expressada serenament en el seu testament i en les paraules que va pronunciar en el consell de guerra que el va condemnar: «Sabré morir serè i amb dignitat, pels meus ideals de sempre i per Catalunya [...] i sense cap ombra de rancor». D’aquesta manera, el president Companys ens assenyalà el camí per superar l’esperit de la guerra civil, per preparar el camí de la reconciliació i per tenir la força de tornar a començar. La seva actitud davant de la mort es va convertir en testimoni vivent del commovedor clam de «paz, piedad y perdón» del president Manuel Azaña al saló del Consell de Cent de l’Ajuntament de Barcelona el 18 de juliol de 1938. Aquesta associació del record del president de la Generalitat i del president de la República em permet expressar el reconeixement al Govern de l’Espanya democràtica per la seva voluntat de restituir públicament i legalment l’honorabilitat del president Lluís Companys. És un gest de justícia històrica, però sobretot és un gest per a l’esperança en un futur en què no resti cap ombra d’agror, de retret i de desconfiança entre la Catalunya plenament autogovernada i l’Espanya democràtica i plural. Pujol retreu al PSC l’«apropiació escandalosa» de la figura del líder republicà EL PERIÓDICO BARCELONA Jordi Pujol es va mostrar ahir «indignat» amb el PSC pel que considera una «escandalosa apropiació» de la figura de Lluís Companys. «És d’un oportunisme poc ètic», va dir l’expresident en referència al cartell editat pels socialistes per commemorar el 64è aniversari de l’afusellament de Companys en què aquest apareix amb el logotip del PSC. Mitjançant un comunicat, Pujol va recordar que Companys va ser afusellat per ser president de Catalunya, no per ser membre de cap partit i, en aquest sentit, va assegurar que, encara que tampoc «estaria bé», «es podria entendre» que ERC en tragués profit, perquè Companys era d’aquest partit. El portaveu adjunt del grup del PSC, Joan Ferran, va replicar a Pujol que CiU, en els seus 23 anys de mandat, «mai va fer un homenatge digne» a Companys. «És comprensible perquè CiU no s’ha sentit mai identificada amb la figura de Companys, un president d’esquerres, preocupat pels treballadors i advocat laboralista», va afegir. De veure i viure el país en plural. Des de la perifèria cap al centre, truncant una lògica centenària que per vella no pot ser acceptada com a eterna. I això, fet per una empresa privada de comunicació, representa un gran canvi que tant de bo fos també un canvi de tendència. Des del Govern de Catalunya estem treballant també pel canvi. Treballem en la reforma de l´Estatut cercant el màxim consens entre totes les forces polítiques. Aspirem a un nou marc constitucional que reconegui Catalunya com el que és; un nou model d´estat que s´emmiralli en el federalisme, una Espanya que s´allunyi de la idea centralista i radial i assumeixi la xarxa com a model. Compartim amb el Govern que presideix José Luís Rodríguez Zapatero la convicció que el reconeixement de la diversitat i la diferència són les bases més sòlides d´una España plural unida. Són temps decisius en el que la voluntat reformadora del polítics i les institucions necessitarà com mai la complicitat i el suport social. En aquest context, la incidència dels mitjans de comunicació és indiscutible. Tant indiscutible com el fet que l´oferta informativa catalana ha mantingut durant anys un dèficit manifest, el de la inexistència de l´opció del setmanari com a eina de formació d´opinió. En els darrers mesos, diverses iniciatives fan front a aquest repte. Especial esment mereixen els quaderns per a la integració dedicats a la immigració que es publicaran a cada edició de Canvi 16. Afavorir la integració de la gent que per diverses circumstàncies ha hagut de sortir del seu país i ha vingut a casa nostra en busca del treball que els permeti desenvolupar la seva vida amb dignitat, és una actitud progressista que cal valorar molt positivament. Els impulsors de CANVI 16 creuen en la pluralitat d´Espanya. I la practiquen. És una aposta valenta, feta des d´una grup i una capçalera històrica representant del millor periodisme que s´ha fet en aquest país. Que els lectors i el mercat us siguin propicis.
